residential case study:
fifth avenue pied-a-terre
By using richly reflective and tactile surfaces such as silver leaf and venetian plaster, this one-bedroom duplex shows a jewel-box quality. Marbleizing and woodgraining were used to integrate doors and woodwork.
Powder Room: the walls and ceiling were finished in silver leaf, then varnished for protection.
Powder Room: the crown molding and door frame were painted as faux limestone to match the limestone countertop.
Foyers and Staircase: the walls were finished in green-gray venetian plaster, visually connecting the apartment's two levels.
Entry Doors: two metal fire doors were glazed as faux paneled mahogany to match doors within the apartment.
Switchplates: the switchplates were painted to match the mahogany, venetian plaster, silk and glass tile of various rooms.
